Class
History Founded approximately ten years ago, the Vanguard 15 class is
one of the fastest growing one-design classes in the United States. Its
fleets are located primarily on the East Coast, but new fleets are appearing
across the United States, including Ohio, Texas, California, Washington,
and Illinois. This high performance boat is filling a niche for adult sailors
who want to race dinghies and prefer short-course racing. With a sleek hull
and two sails, the Vanguard 15 is designed to be sailed by a two-member
crew and handles well in a variety of wind and wave conditions. Its simple
design and strict one-design rules make it easy for all types of sailors
to step into a Vanguard 15 and be competitive. The Vanguard 15 is also the
most popular boat in the fast growing sport of team racing, as the United
States Team Racing Association uses it in both the Midwinter's and National
Championships, as well as many other events. The Class encompasses both
beginning sailors and Olympic racers. |
