Our second day of frostbiting dawned a little grey and rainy without much
wind, but RC guru Rob Sumner managed to put together 3 fleet races and
4 team races to build the sailors appetites for the warm soup and cold
beer that were waiting for them on land, courtesy of Lance and Mel. Bill
Faude found swimming before the first race worked well, as he recovered
to a dominating 1st place. Maybe he should have done it before each of
the other two, as Pete and Dina Horsch managed to win their first two races
in the second and third races, with solid starts and a little nascar strategy
- sail towards where there is no wind, and by the time you get there the
wind will be there too. We experimented with 4 on 3 team racing, but when
Mel announced that HE was able to figure out the math, we went back to
3 on 3, where the team usually composed of Gerri & Ian, Lance & Ann,
and Bill & Elizabeth were able to win 3 of the 4 races. Good soup and
cold beer attracted Sue and Lee to show up after sailing, so all in all
not a bad turnout for the post HS2003 weekend. (Pete Horsch)
