Our next to last SLMR regatta is in the books. For those of you who did not make it out this past weekend you missed a very challenging regatta. Saturday seemed to go on forever as the conditions where very difficult. Spotty wind and 40 degree shifts made the racing very hard to figure out. CYC managed to get in six races. After the first day Martin Johnsson & Sarah Neis(1130) had a 3 point lead over Pete Horsch & Erika Seamon(101). Sunday turned out to be a different challenge as the wind had turned south with the only race of the day starting in 20+ knots of wind and building close to 30 in the middle of the 2nd beat. As it turned out the winner of the regatta was decided on the final run to the finish. Jim Walker & Dan Burns (778) held a commanding lead through out the race. Down the final run a huge blast came through bringing the boats up from behind and making it difficult just to keep your boat upright. 788 was the first to capsize with 101, 1069, 1108, 124, 1198 all close together coming to the finish 1108 (me, have not gone that fast on a run in a v15 this year) looked as though they might win but a capsize after a jibe 1 boat length from the finish allowed 101 & 1069 to finish first & second by inches, followed by 1108, 778, 1198, 124 & the rest of fleet. With the first (101) Pete & Erika where able to win the tie breaker with Martin & Sarah. I don't believe sufficient beers where bought for 1108 & 778 for sacrificing boat & life for there fellow fleet members.( I am very thirsty) Due to the wind speed and number of boats capsized CYC had to call it a day.
