October 4-5, 2003
Results
Saturdays forecast of 15-25 knot NW winds never materialized and we never got more than 8 knots of breeze (More like 3-5) and it shifted 150 degrees through out the day which made for a challenging day for both racers and RC. We managed to get 4 races in on Saturday with Martin Johnson winning 2 of the 4 races but tied with August Hernandez for second with 14 points behind Mel & Sue with 12, drop not yet calculated in. Sunday proved to be more of a "Talbot" Regatta day with stronger winds from the N-NE. Neither side of the course seemed to be consistently favored so it came down to boat speed and mark roundings. Every mark rounding seemed to have the whole fleet with in boat lengths and positions changed at each rounding, but Martin Johnson had the boat speed and was most consistent. Even after being OCS and also taking a 720 penalty, Martin seemed to get back into the top of the fleet each race, proving you can do your circles and still win. With out the drop there was a tie between Martin and Auggie with 28 points, and Mel only 1 point behind, but after the drop Martin had a 2 point lead to win the 2003 Jimmy Talbot Regatta after a close second in 2002.
